Mary Poppins

Mary Poppins is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers, and astonishing stagecraft.

The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren't the only ones she has a profound effect upon. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that "Anything can happen if you let it."

Creative Team

From her earliest memories Linda has been dancing, singing, acting, and organizing her way through family living room Christmas programs. She continues to enjoy this wild passion as it has flourished through the years. Her professional training in the arts and a degree in Elementary Education has allowed her to pursue her love of music and theater by teaching vocal music and performing nationally in both secular and Christian venues. After raising four children with her husband Tim, Linda received God’s invitation to open a CYT in Wichita. It has been an adventure that has surpassed her wildest dreams! She considers it a blessing to watch God bring joy, strengthen character, and create a new awareness of His power through the avenues of music and theater.

He received his Bachelors in Music Education and Masters in Church and Choral Music from Friends University. During college, he was active in Music Theatre of Wichita. Doug keeps busy with his 12 – year old son, Paul, who is active in CYT and is a 6th grader at Central Christian Academy. Doug and Paul attend Newspring Church.

Amy L. Derstein (formerly Rogers) is excited to be back choreographing her seventh show for CYT! She has been choreographing and teaching dance since 1996. She has also danced and performed professionally in New York, St. Louis, Chicago, and Wichita. She graduated from Friends University in 2001 with degrees in Fine Arts/Ballet and Psychology (with an emphasis in counseling). She is currently enjoying her time as wife to her beloved best friend, Christopher Derstein, and as mother to two amazing girls, Addie, 12, and Meredith, 7. She has a passion to provide classical and professional ballet/dance instruction to all ages, in an environment that honors and praises Jesus Christ.

Lisa Paine | Assistant Director

A recent graduate of Friends University with degrees in English Literature and Theatre, Lisa Paine is ecstatic to be serving as Assistant Director in Mary Poppins. As a teenager, Lisa performed in five CYT productions and has since returned as a drama teacher, stage manager, assistant director, and served as director for CYT West's You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown in the Fall of 2014. She is particularly excited to serve on this Mary Poppins artistic team as she is finished with school and will be able to better focus and invest in this theatre community. Extremely passionate about serving youth in community, she also serves with Legacy Ministries, Inc. working to reach at-risk youth in the Wichita area through the arts.  She is excited to continue pouring into the arts community in Wichita, and hopes to give a sense of belonging and confidence to the youth she is able to mentor. Isaiah 40:8
