Now one of the most performed shows in America, Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Lucky Stiff, My Favorite Year, Once on This Island, Ragtime), have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination – Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.
The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many "thinks." Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
Kim became fascinated with drama when she played Becky Thatcher in her 5th grade English class play, and she remained active in drama and music throughout her high school career. She enjoyed acting with Shakespeare in the Park and other area community theatres- until God began redirecting her and she found herself in nursing. She thought God had asked her to put drama aside but happily, she was wrong. Her church music director decided she should direct and threw her in her first of many musical productions. When her children began following in her footsteps she became active in productions at Sunrise Christian Academy and, co-directing Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. When she was asked to come to CYT and direct Narnia she was instantly hooked. She loved the Godly Christian atmosphere and the desire of all to give God the full glory for all that was performed and taught. She found a ministry in which she could call kids to the amazing love of her Lord Jesus Christ and help them find their identity in Him. She has also directed, Tom Sawyer, Cinderella, The Wizard of Oz, Sound of Music, Tarzan, The Little Mermaid and is now delighted to direct Seussical. She is loved and supported in this venture by her dear husband Tom and 5 children, ages 9-25, all who share her love for theatre and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
