What is included in the camp fee?
Campers get a t-shirt to wear during the week. Kids campers also get a pizza lunch on Friday. Each camper will get two slices, drink, and dessert. If a student wants extra pieces they can purchase slices for $1.00 each.
What happens the first day of camp?
- Campers will be greeted by camp staff and are encouraged to join into group games. Parents will be introduced to our Camp Coordinator and given some important information regarding the week at the opening parent meeting.
- Campers will be broken into their teams and meet their teammates. The first day, we take some time to introduce the campers to their counselors and make them feel welcomed and excited to be at camp, as well as explain behavior expectations.
- After that, campers break into classes in dance, drama and voice. In each class, they will participate in a short and fun "audition". There is no preparation required and we try to keep the auditions exciting and non- threatening.
- During class rotations, we also have a short snack time, where campers can either bring or purchase snacks.
- Campers then come together for lunch, games, team time & character building activities.
- Then it's afternoon rehearsal where campers learn their first big group number.
- At the end of the first day, campers will be assigned their showcase parts as well as their team songs. EVERY child will be in the showcase, and some campers will be assigned lines or solos based on their auditions.
What will my child be doing while at camp?
Camps will be rotating through centers in the morning working with the music director, choreographer, and drama director. Campers will receive lines and have a part in the drama, if they choose to audition. Some campers will also be given solos or small group ensembles. All campers will sing at least 3 numbers in the final showcase. Campers will also learn a special team dance along with the choreography for the vocal numbers. After lunch, all campers participate in group games and team building activities. A time of devotion and inspiration is also had after lunch. During the afternoon session, campers rehearse on stage with their team and with the whole camp for the final showcase.
Does my child have to attend the showcase on Friday evening at 7:00?
Yes, camps are designed to teach theater skills through the songs, dances, and scripts that the students will present on Friday night. The showcase is a super fun event that is open to the public to watch. The showcase is a "mini" theater production that includes all teams in whole group numbers and individual team numbers. It is a great evening of amazing performances!
What if my child is upset the first day of camp? Can I stay with them?
We find that at times, especially for younger campers, the first day can be a bit overwhelming. However, our staff is equipped to look out for children who may need encouragement to participate. Staff may come over and try to engage your child in opening activities like dances or games or introduce them to other campers. Parents are welcome to stay through opening activities, but once campers break into teams, we've found that mom or dad's presence sometimes makes a more difficult emotional break. Almost always, once campers have a few minutes to see what fun camp is, they quickly adjust. Please be assured that if your child is overly upset for an extended period of time, we will contact you.
How will I know who is in charge?
Our staff and teen assistants will be wearing a CYT Summer camp staff shirt and a name tag on an orange lanyard.
Can my child be on a team with a friend?
Yes! We try to honor as many requests as we can in regards to age range. Please include a name of a friend attending on your registration page if you would like us to try and put them on the same team.
What does my child bring?
All day campers will need to bring a sack lunch and we recommend bringing a water bottle & snack money. On water day, bring a towel and wear clothes and shoes that can get wet. NO swimsuits! Please apply sunscreen before coming to camp and/or send sunscreen with your child and it will be applied.
Do you have extended care?
No, we do not have extended care. If you need an early drop off or a late pick up on a day due to a conflict, please contact coordinator and we will work with your schedule. We do not want your child to miss out on camp because of an early or late conflict.
Can my child switch teams?
We encourage you to let us know who you would like to be on a team with ahead of time. We work very hard to make teams balanced and a great opportunity for your child. However, if there is an urgent need, we will consider switching teams the first day only.
What if my child doesn’t know anyone?
Many of our campers are new to CYT. We encourage a very friendly and welcoming atmosphere where kids will meet new friends. Your child will also have a specific staff person assigned to their team color who can assist in easing the transition.
What should my child wear?
We encourage comfortable dance and play friendly clothing each day. Please encourage your kids to wear shoes with a back of some kind (please no flip flops).
How do you handle allergies?
Please let us know of allergies on your registration form. Our staff will be alerted to the allergy and maintain a high level of awareness. Medication can be left with directions with the camp coordinator. PLEASE NOTE: CYT is a “no nut” organization.
Does my child have to participate in water games?
No. But water games are one of the camper's favorite parts of camp!
Is there a nurse on staff?
We do not have a nurse on staff.
What is your cancellation/refund policy?
Due to the extreme popularity of our camps, we do not offer refunds or cancellations for any reason except medical or family emergencies. We will be happy to switch you to a different week of camp if you need to swap weeks though!
Can I sign up on the first day of camp?
You can walk up and sign up at camp. However, many of our camps fill up so we encourage early registration. First day registrations are not guaranteed a camp t-shirt.
What about supervision?
Your child’s safety is our utmost concern. Each person hired by CYT has completed a background check, interview, and camp staff training. CYT limits the maximum team number to 25 campers. Each team is assigned an adult staff leader, and we have 2-3 teen assistants per team. There is also an adult camp coordinator and administrator for every camp.
Who do I contact in case of emergency during camp?
You will be provided a contact cell number of your area's camp administrator in case of an emergency.
Do you have to be a Christian to come to CYT?
No. CYT holds to Judeo-Christian values of family, community, leadership and positive encouragement. We welcome all kids of varying faiths, backgrounds and beliefs.
