Class Description

Specialty Drama Class - Text Analysis
The art of understanding the text that you are to utilize as an actor is paramount in the arena of theatre. This class will prepare you to delve into scripts, songs, and relevant literature in order to better your work as an actor and to better understand your responsibility to fully engage and understand your character and the story you are to tell. We will delve into classic and contemporary materials, and consider them through the various lens of theme, plot, conflict and so on. Students will have the opportunity to be hands-on in the selection and development of our showcase, putting into practice interpretation and communication of the emotion and meaning of a story.

Prerequisite: Core Drama at the Act 2 level


Sophia Costello

Sophia is a CYT alumni, involved for six formative years as a student. In addition to performing, she has been a part of the backstage and makeup crews, lent her talents as a photographer to assist the Historians and Public Relations committees, and even enjoyed the opportunity to assist the directors as Student Intern during CYT Wichita’s production of Honk! Most recently, Sophia taught Our Gang for the Enrollment Show Spring 2018 Session and choreographed for Our Gang during “Be Brave!” summer camp. She is thrilled to be involved at CYT in a teaching role, combining eight years of experience working with youth of all ages, an affinity for the Arts, and passion for serving the Lord and His kingdom.
