Class Description

Frozen JR. is based on the 2018 Broadway musical, and brings Elsa, Anna, and the magical land of Arendelle to life, onstage. The show features all of the memorable songs from the animated film, with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, plus five new songs written for the Broadway production.

A story of true love and acceptance between sisters, Frozen JR. expands upon the emotional relationship and journey between Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood. With a cast of beloved characters and loaded with magic, adventure, and plenty of humor, Frozen JR. is sure to thaw even the coldest heart!

Enrollment Shows count as a “class” within CYT and allow students to be eligible to audition for our main stage shows. Upon enrollment your student is automatically guaranteed a part in the Enrollment Show, then the second week of classes students will audition for casting of parts within the show. Students will need to prepare and memorize a one minute audition song (music theater style songs only) ready to sing on the second week of class. Please fill out the Google Form within the class confirmation email to upload your audition karaoke track and to sign-up for the auditions for the Enrollment Show (students may also bring an accompanist to their audition, one will not be provided). Enrollment Shows meet on Tuesday nights from 5pm-8pm and put on two showcases at the end of the session. Costumes, simple sets, and props will be provided for your student and for the overall production. However, students may need to provide basic costume pieces for the production. Attendance is expected at all class nights as we only have a limited amount of rehearsal time. Personal rehearsal and memorization is expected outside of class time.

Teacher:

Robert Thomas

Robert graduated from Wichita State University with a BFA in Theatre Performance. While at WSU, Robert had the opportunity to participate in various productions from both a performance and technical standpoint. Robert is certified in stage combat, including knife and unarmed fighting. He has had the opportunity to teach acting and stage combat classes for CYT, as well as direct productions of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and Honk. Robert is grateful for the many opportunities that CYT has provided him to pass on his love for storytelling to the next generation.

Teacher:

Jessica Thomas

Jessica has had a love for musical theatre since she was five years old. She grew up performing in shows at community theaters in her hometown of Orange County, California. She relocated to Wichita upon graduating high school to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Musical Theatre at Wichita State University. After two years of study, Jessica felt God calling her to change her major to elementary education. Now, Jessica works in the Wichita Public School District as a fourth grade teacher. She has been involved with CYT for four years as both a teacher and a stage manager. She is grateful for the opportunity to share her love for Jesus and theatre with the kids of CYT, alongside her husband, Robert.

Teacher:

Nicole Cox

Dance has had a profound impact on Nicole's life. As a shy young girl, she started dancing in a small town studio at the age of 8. She learned that she could communicate emotions and tell stories through the art of dance. The dance studio quickly became her second home. There she studied ballet, pointe, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop and tap. Her desire to share her love of dance with others came naturally as she began assistant teaching at the age of 15. Outside of the studio, Nicole was also involved in several community and school musicals where her love for theatre began to emerge. In college, she continued to develop her teaching style while helping with choreography for musicals and multiple dance performances. She also competed in dance and cheer while in college. Nicole currrently teaches at her home studio, Graceful Expressions School of Dance. She also teaches a variety of dance classes for her community. Since becoming a CYT instructor in 2011, Nicole has been greatly inspired by her students and their desire to grow! She counts it a blessing to work alongside a talented team of instructors and a wonderfully supportive CYT family! Her desire is to help her students learn how to better communicate through the art of dance. Her biggest joy and reward as a dance teacher is being able to see her students take pride in their achievments as they grow, while giving God the glory for the provided opportunities to share those achievments.
