Class Description

Junie B. Jones, The Musical JR. is a delightful adaptation of four of Barbara Park's best-selling books. Join Junie B. on her first day of first grade, where many changes are in store: Junie's best friend Lucille has found new best friends -— and Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. While in Mr. Scary's class, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard — and she may need glasses. Add in a friendly cafeteria lady, an intense kickball tournament and a "Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal," and first grade has never been more exciting. Featuring many lovable characters and fun-filled songs, Junie B. Jones JR. will capture your audiences' and Broadway Junior performers' hearts — just as the books captivated an entire generation of students.

Teacher:

Caroline Whiteside

Caroline Whiteside is a Wichita native who has grown up participating in CYT Wichita. She has been blessed with opportunities to choreograph for Andale High School, Douglass High School, Andover Central High School, CYT Wichita Summer Camps, and CYT Wichita Enrollment Shows. Caroline was also an assistant to the director for CYT’s 2016-2017 Winter Show, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. She studied at Butler Community College and graduated with an associate degree in Secondary Education and was on vocal scholarship where she participated in Headliners and was one of their choreographers. Caroline is excited to deepen her relationship with the students of CYT and to help them grow in their love for the theatre!

Teacher:

Nicole Cox

Dance has had a profound impact on Nicole's life. As a shy young girl, she started dancing in a small town studio at the age of 8. She learned that she could communicate emotions and tell stories through the art of dance. The dance studio quickly became her second home. There she studied ballet, pointe, jazz, lyrical, hip-hop and tap. Her desire to share her love of dance with others came naturally as she began assistant teaching at the age of 15. Outside of the studio, Nicole was also involved in several community and school musicals where her love for theatre began to emerge. In college, she continued to develop her teaching style while helping with choreography for musicals and multiple dance performances. She also competed in dance and cheer while in college. Nicole currrently teaches at her home studio, Graceful Expressions School of Dance. She also teaches a variety of dance classes for her community. Since becoming a CYT instructor in 2011, Nicole has been greatly inspired by her students and their desire to grow! She counts it a blessing to work alongside a talented team of instructors and a wonderfully supportive CYT family! Her desire is to help her students learn how to better communicate through the art of dance. Her biggest joy and reward as a dance teacher is being able to see her students take pride in their achievments as they grow, while giving God the glory for the provided opportunities to share those achievments.
